Department Introduction
Clinical pharmacy is a branch of public health science in which the pharmacist uses all of their pharmaceutical knowledge for the benefit of the patient. Today, clinical pharmacy services are provided in hospitals, pharmacies, and other areas where pharmacists are active. The education offered by our department focuses on understanding the definition and importance of clinical pharmacy, defining the role and responsibilities of clinical pharmacists, learning basic/clinical pharmacokinetic concepts, and calculating related mathematical parameters. The curriculum also includes learning about bioavailability and bioequivalence concepts, evaluating clinical biochemistry data, assessing drug pharmacokinetics and drug use in special patient groups (geriatrics, pediatrics, patients with liver and kidney failure), monitoring drug levels, evaluating fluid-electrolyte imbalances and acid-base disturbances from a drug therapy perspective, oncology pharmacy, and learning how to prepare parenteral solutions for hospital use, as well as evaluating drug interactions, side effects, and adverse drug reactions.
